Running for Our Hero — Dad’s Dementia Journey

On the 29th of February 2024, our world changed. Our dad — the head of our family, our hero, the man who has always been our rock — was diagnosed with dementia.

Dad has always been the hardest-working man we know. A loving husband, an incredible dad, a brilliant grandad, and even a proud great-grandad — he has always put family first. He’s the one we all turn to, the one who fixes everything, the one who holds us together. Seeing him face this diagnosis has been heartbreaking, but it’s also shown us just how strong and loving he continues to be.

Sadly, dementia now affects 1 in 3 people, and behind every diagnosis is a family doing their best to understand, cope, and keep those precious memories alive. That’s why me and my sister are taking on the Conwy Half Marathon — to raise money for Dementia UK, a charity that provides specialist support to families just like ours.

Every mile we run will be for Dad — and for every family walking this same road. We want to help make sure no one faces dementia alone.
