In December 2025, Wayne Hackman set out on an electric motorbike journey across Kenya with a simple but powerful mission: to bring light to homes where families cannot afford electricity.

Along the way, solar boxes were installed in homes, giving people access to reliable power where there had previously been none. The fundraiser also helped restore dependable electricity to a school, making a real and lasting difference for students and staff.

Originally, the GoFundMe was set up to raise money during the ride itself. But since then, the need has not gone away. I continue to have people asking for solar boxes, and organisations asking for help with power. The difficult truth is that, at the moment, I have to say no. The project has been financially stretching, and continuing it without further support simply is not possible.

That said, I do not regret it for a moment. We have already given away many solar boxes and helped bring reliable power to a school. I would dearly love to do more.

For that reason, I am leaving the GoFundMe open.

Reliable electricity is something many of us take for granted. Yet for some families and schools, a small solar box can make an enormous difference. It can mean light in the evening, a charged phone, safer homes, better study, and a sense of dignity and hope.
