Empowering girls is not just about providing opportunities; it's about recognizing and addressing the unique challenges they face due to the intersectionalities of race, identity, and socio-economic standing. At Power to Girls, we are committed to creating safe spaces that not only shield girls from the heightened experiences of inequality but also nurture their self-esteem and overall well-being.
As we reflect on our impact over the past year, we are thrilled to share with you the milestones we've achieved with your support. From 2022 to 2023, Power to Girls Foundation made a significant difference in the lives of girls both locally and globally:
- Our Ambassador Program is dedicated to engaging 10 girls aged 11 to 18, by providing opportunities to lead and become valuable role models.
- The Roots of a Black Girl Research Project, funded through WAGE, explores the experiences of black and marginalized girls in Ontario's educational system, collecting data from over 200 participants.
- Our After School Program actively engages over 150 black and marginalized girls in personal development, mental health, and mentorship across 7 schools.
- As part of our Back to School giveaway, we distributed 100 backpacks filled with school supplies, supporting students in their educational journey.
- The Power Talks Podcast, hosted by girls for girls, continues to flourish with over 4000 all-time streams, serving as an ongoing resource for meaningful conversations and connections.
- Our Tutoring Program engaged over 40 students in collaboration with the TCDSB as a provisional tutoring program for students who need additional support in English/Literacy and Math/Numeracy.
Globally, our impact reached Ghana, where we made a difference in various ways:
- 30 girls actively participated in our Entrepreneurship Bootcamp, acquiring valuable skills for future success.
- In Kumasi, we hosted a dynamic Career and Mentorship Training Day, fostering personal and professional growth for 800 students.
- Addressing a critical need, we distributed over 500 sanitary pads and conducted menstrual health and hygiene workshops in rural areas, contributing to the fight against period poverty.
- Our impactful 2nd Annual Power of a Girl Conference celebrated International Day of a Girl Child, bringing together 1500 girls for a day filled with workshops, panel discussions, and engaging activities.
- Since its launch, MyPowerApp has grown to serve over 800 active users, providing a unique online platform for girls to connect with mentors and each other, enhancing their overall well-being.
While the impact has been significant, there is still much work to be done. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in investing in the future of girls.
