Power 2 the Polls is a grassroots organization committed to empowering individuals to create change through political action. Founded in May 2020 by two Washington University law students and one alumna, Katherine Murchison, Kennedy Moehrs, and Sarah McKinney, Power 2 the Polls inspires their neighbors to become civically engaged citizens and encourages political participation amongst non-traditional voters. What began as a passion project to register new voters at St. Louis demonstrations has blossomed into a self-driven organization with over 70 volunteers in five different states.
Our mission is to empower folks who have historically been marginalized and disenfranchised from the vote to engage in our political process. Together, we hope to translate our communities' emotional unrest into political power. We have created tremendous momentum throughout the past four months and we will continue encouraging our neighbors to make tangible, long-lasting change by bringing their power to the polls.
To date, Power 2 the Polls has registered over 300 folks to vote and has provided absentee/mail-in request forms for every person we have registered. Additionally, we have developed a website to publicize important voter information including how to register online, locate your polling place, become a poll worker, and more. We have partnered with over 15 local businesses to display links to our resourceful website, now easily accessible by phone through our QR codes.
Power 2 the Polls has developed a reputation for getting important work done and has partnered with other non-profits to coordinate their voter engagement efforts. We were even recently showcased in this blog! We are so proud of the impactful work we have done so far, but unfortunately, it's been entirely out of pocket. We need YOUR help to continue growing as an organization and empowering our neighbors to become civically engaged.
Your support will provide critical resources to allow us to expand our outreach in the following ways:
1. Send absentee/mail-in voter forms, stamps, and envelopes to neighbors
2. Supply gloves, masks, and hand sanitizer for volunteers registering voters
3. Provide fuel for rides to the Election Board and to the polls on Election Day
4. Print, laminate, and distribute website QR codes to local businesses
5. Maintain the website as a resource for voter engagement and education
Thank you so much for supporting our organization. Your commitment to our cause will directly help your neighbors bring their Power 2 the Polls!
