Dahlgren Neighbor Assistance Effort

Charlie is a 91 year old WW2 veteran with a hoarding compulsion, PTSD. His house caught fire and is condemned. Due to the hoard and condition of the house, it would have to be completely torn down and rebuilt and was not covered by his homeowners insurance because of this. He is a man of many stories, an animal lover and just wants to feel safe. I have witnessed him complete perimeter checks in full fatigues and stand for his own colors ceremony facing the flag at the school across the street. He keeps in good spirits while living in a car filled with everything he values and hooks a crockpot to the battery to cook! He is nothing if not a survivor! Mr. Charlie also has an aortic aneurysm, neuropathy in his legs, and has suffered from multiple blood clots recently. His dog is his only family and he always ensures he is taken care of. Our mission: to buy/build/install a sturdy shed that can be connected to an external propane tank for cooking plus safely provide a heated for a shelter for Charlie. We have many contractors willing to assist with the work, but finding a shed has been the hardest part. Contrary to what some may think, Charlie is not loaded. He lives on his pension and he has some serious health problems. Negativity in response to this post will not be tolerated. Our neighbor is in need...I love this community for how willing everyone is to lend their neighbors a hand, so please reach out of you are willing and we will come up with a date to help as much as possible to get the ball rolling on HIS terms. This is the current plan Charlie has accepted. The fence and driveway have been a huge asset to him, but winter is coming and getting him out of his vehicle is the main goal.
