I would like to take a moment and introduce to you American Legion Old Glory Post 183 located in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Our little Post was founded in 1946 with Fred Madden as Commander and Leonard Casselberry, Post Adjutant. In March 1947, S. Lucile and W.J.Wells Jr. donated to Post 183 lake front property on Prairie Lake in beautiful Altamonte Springs, Florida. Old Glory Post 183 received its Legion Charter March 28, 1947. The American Legion Auxiliary although active from the very beginning of Old Glory Post #183 did not receive its charter until July 1948. The Sons of the American Legion Squadron was chartered in March 2006 and Post 183’s newest Legion family member is The American Legion Riders was chartered in July of 2011.
Our little Post has been active in the community since it was chartered. At one time we had our own Boy Scout Troop. The charities our Post have contributed to are, Special Olympics, Boy’s State, Veteran Relief, and countless others. Our little Post continues to strive to give to our community and charities that are in need.
Truth be told, our little Post has seen the greatest of times, when the community can call on us and we would be there. When our chosen charities could count on a check from our little Post every year. When our little Post would hold big events on our gorgeous lake front property. Our little Post had a big name.
Today we cannot hold that claim to fame. Our little Post now needs the community’s help. We would love to go back to the days where we able to give and give a lot. Our little Post needs the funds to do that. Our gorgeous lake front property needs a nice face lift and quit a bit of repair. Our kitchen needs new appliances. Our once great hall needs a nice face lift that our founding members would be proud of.
I am writing this to ask for your help. Along with our new Commander Bernie Bokanoski, I am one of the newest Officers. Together with all the other Officers and Family members would like to bring our Post back to great things. We cannot do this without your help. This Gofundme page is established to save our little Post. The money would be used to do everything stated above and much more. Our little Post has big hopes. Your donations will help achieve those.
On behalf of Old Glory Post 183 we truly thank you in advance.
