Positivity Packs for nursing homes

Donation protected
At the heart of this ‘Positivity Pack’ initiative is the sentiment that “We rise by lifting others”(Ingersoll) - a concept that is so important during these challenging times!!

On the 18th April I lost my nan to this deadly virus and true to form in her final days her carers embraced her with the loving care she had come to know. Saying goodbye through the window, my heart broke for the staff there and their’s broke for us. Right now, they continue to face challenging work environments and insurmountable amounts of guilt and grief. We are eternally grateful for they love they showed nan, from the moment she walked in, right up until the end. Her hair was always dyed, her clothes always beautifully co-ordinated, her stories always listened to and on special occasions her make up done to perfection. These little things that stick out in our memories, were choices over chores. which culminated in nan feeling cherished and loved as if by her own family. My Nan is not a statistic and to many Irish people who have loved ones in nursing home, the carers become part of the extended family.

The impact of my Nan’s passing, the visible impact on her carers and knowing that one of the staff that day was one of my fellow scouts is just some of the many reasons why this is being done. We are a group of people from Dublin and other parts of Ireland who have volunteered to try and make a difference.

As we grieve our loss, most of these carers are grieving the loss of multiple residents. This is our way of helping them while the current situation rages on and it’s only a snippet of what they deserve for doing the trojan work they are doing every day. We know that these packages won’t fix these carers issues or struggles, it won’t be the reason they triumph over this virus and it’ll most likely only last around a week. But we’re okay with that, because our aim is to show them with actions that they are not alone. That we care. That we support them. That we stand beside them. And hopefully bring even a sliver of happiness or positivity to the days spent on the frontline diligently fighting this virus.

Positivity Packs’ are essentially care packages for nursing home workers. In each hamper we make, we are aiming to have skin care items like hand and face creams, beauty products, several self care products, a candle of remembrance, some inspirational quotes, a lot of goodies and sweets and a de-stressing colouring book. We intend to send a ‘Positivity Pack’ hamper to as many nursing homes as we can , in line with the current government restrictions on travel. As our volunteers are dispersed this increases the amount of nursing homes we can safely gift a hamper to.

We’ve ordered hampers and wrapping, are awaiting delivery, in addition there are 6 deliveries of products coming to our home from kind donations. Once they are all here which we hope will be by the end of the week, we will start making hampers , post the image on the page and we will keep you updated on which nursing homes we send hampers to
So how can you help?

There are four ways you can help:

1) You can donate money, and every single donation is important and makes a difference, even ones as small as 1 or 2 euros. Sharing our go fund me and encouraging family and friends to donate as well, which would be so appreciated by everyone volunteering here.

2) If you want to get more hands on involved, no matter what part of the country you are in, email me (by making contact through this page) or follow our Instagram page and make contact that way.

3) If you would prefer to order some product and send to my address, please message me above
4) If you are a company and would like to help even by just giving a discount on purchases please reach out our instagram page above.

Our country is currently facing such unprecedented events, that have a negative impact on almost anyone; it really is a hard time for Ireland and the world as a collective. But in these hard times, we can rise by lifting others, and by being kind. I promise you that every donation will make a difference to some of the people having the hardest of times.

From our “Positivity Pack” family to yours, we wish you and your nearest and dearest health and wellness during this pandemic.
Love,
“Positivity Pack” Family.
