The Portland City Laborers are a collection of City workers that jointly negotiate a contract with the City. Over 300 days of negotiations we have told City management again and again about our needs for safer working conditions and wages that keep up with inflation. Those needs have been broadly ignored.
Because of the City's failure to meet our needs, the members of Portland City Laborers have declared our intent to Strike on February 2nd. Sadly, this dramatic action seems the only path that would let our members live in the community they serve. We are asking for your support.
Money raised will go directly to supporting striking workers in their fight for a fair contract. If a strike is averted, or any funds remain following the end of a Laborers strike, the money raised will be used to support workers in similar labor situations.
Workers under this contract run our sewer systems, repair our roads, maintain our parks, and so much more. We have served the public through the Pandemic and other ongoing crises. We took millions of dollars in concessions to help the City in its time of need. Now we need the City and its people, to help us with a contract that lets us keep doing our essential work for this community.
