Porterville Pantry Project: Help Feed Local Families

In Porterville, California, many families are facing food insecurity. Whether it be job loss, health challenges, or other hardship, the need for easier access to food has never been higher. At The Porterville Pantry Project, we believe that nobody should go hungry, and through the support of our community we can alleviate the burden placed on those who struggle to meet their needs. We are working to provide a reliable resource to accessible, nutritious food to local families and individuals who need it – but we cannot do it alone. By cultivating a culture of generosity and compassion, our pantry will work to make sure that every member of our community has access to food, dignity, and support during difficult times. Together, we can create a stronger, more resilient community so we don't have to face hunger alone.

Our plan is to create a designated space outside a community shop where individuals and (hopefully) other local shops can donate non-perishable goods, fresh produce, and pantry staples while others can take what they need and leave the rest. This space will be regularly checked in on and maintained by a team of volunteers whose goal it is to ensure the pantry remains clean, safe, and presentable.

Our starting goal is $750, which will go directly towards purchasing a refrigerator that meets the standards required to keep the food fresh and safe for consumption, as well as being energy efficient. Excess funds (if any) will go directly towards building a weatherproof shelter for the fridge, maintaining the fridge and pantry, ensuring it is well-stocked, and filling it with wholesome food to continue serving local families and individuals.
