Poppy’s Bday Fundraiser for Red Canary Song
Donation protected
Hiiii! For my birthday I am matching up to $5K in donations to hopefully raise a total of $10K for Red Canary Song, an organization that is very near and dear to my heart. ❤️
I was first introduced to Red Canary Song, an organization that supports migrant sex workers and massage parlor workers, by my mentor and friend Yin, a community organizer and longtime sex worker activist, during our collaboration on Mercy Mistress. You may have heard of Red Canary Song this year as one of the primary organizations folks turned to after the Atlanta shootings.
Who they are:
“RED CANARY SONG TENETS.
No more police raids and deportations. Policing is not social work. Arrest and sentencing, even with diversion programming, is not a humane way to deliver social services.
Labor rights in our workplaces, regardless of immigration status: Freedom to openly assemble without fear, share resources, and collectively organize for better wages and working conditions
Nothing about us without us. Respect and dignified livelihood for all sex workers and migrant workers.”
Recent projects:
Red Canary Song is constantly raising money for mutual aid for migrant workers. Most recently they are raising funds for Sooyoung, a Korean massage worker in NYC living with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), osteoarthritis, chronic kidney failures, avascular necrosis, and scoliosis who needs a hip joint replacement surgery which she has been unable to afford for years.
They have also started a reproductive health program for migrant massage workers to see OB/GYN doctors and receive the services they need, paid for by Red Canary Song.
