Hi, my name is Poppy and I am lucky enough to be able to go on the World Challenge Morocco Expedition in July 2025 with my school. This amazing experience runs over two weeks and the expedition includes working as a volunteer at a local community initiative living alongside the farming community.
For 4/5 days I will be travelling in the countryside and living alongside a farming community which will be based in a remote oasis town in the Atlas Mountains. I will be working with the school to improve basic infrastructure such as irrigation systems and sports facilities and learn how this can impact the environment and student wellbeing. I will meet the farmers and learn about the importance of water preservation in this dry area.
After this the next stage involves a challenging 5 day trek into the High Atlas Mountains. I will start with the Oukaimeden Peak, climbing 3262m of elevation to view Morocco's highest mountain Jebel Toubkal. Then, for the next 3 days straight I will be climbing up the Tizi Nou Addi Mountain of nearly 3000m elevation, with mules to help carry our bags. I think this will be a very challenging experience.
Finally we will also be spending time with a coastal community in Essaouira and then in urban Marrakech.
This trip is important to me as it will help me immerse myself in different cultures and experiences, challenge my physical fitness and build my confidence.
Part of this challenge is to fundraise the money for the trip so when I set out on the expedition to Morocco, I will feel as if I have earned my place. To fundraise for this challenge, I will be partaking in various events with some of my other teammates. I will also be doing odd jobs for the local community and baking.
I appreciate your support and anything you are able to donate would be gratefully accepted.
Thank you so much
Poppy
