Poppy is sailing the Eddystone Pursuit in aid of Horizons

Poppy is raising money in aid of Horizons (Plymouth) and every donation will help.

Horizons Children's Sailing Charity has been providing sailing and waterborne activities for disabled and disadvantaged children from the inner city communities of Plymouth since 1991.

Every year Horizon's run over 3000 individual sessions to young people aged 8 to 19, providing valuable learning and educational opportunities that increase self-confidence and improve social and practical skills, through water-based activities that would normally be beyond the means of these children.

On Saturday the 14th June, Horizons Plymouth will be taking part in the Eddystone Pursuit 2025, one of the South West’s most iconic sailing events.

Twenty children will sail in the fleet of four Hawk 20 keelboats, or join the event on our RIBs, following a specially adapted course inside Plymouth Sound. This allows them to safely take part in the wider Eddystone Pursuit – sailing alongside many large yachts – while staying within our normal operating area. It’s a fantastic opportunity for our young people to take on a new challenge, experience the buzz of a major event, and feel part of something big!

Why Fundraising Matters

Thanks to the dedication of the Horizons team and the amazing support of their community, they've been able to make this exciting opportunity happen, but help is needed to make it a success.

Taking part in the Youth Regatta is completely free for children, but each team of young sailors is challenged to raise at least £150 per boat to support Horizons’ work in the community.

This event is a key part of the club's annual fundraising efforts, helping to provide free sailing, mentoring, and positive activities for children across Plymouth, especially those who face disadvantage or disability.

What Can You Do to Help?

Poppy will be holding an 'Ice-Lolly Friday' at school this week, is doing a sponsored read and doing chores and jobs around the farm to raise money towards her goal but if you would like to donate to this awesome organisation, this is the place to do so.
