Polar Plunging for Brianna

Hi! My name is McKenzi Melanson, I am 13 years old, a gymnast and lover of Squam Lake. Since COVID, my family and I have been spending more time close to home and enjoying everything Central NH has to offer. On April 8, 2021 "ice out" was officially declared on Squam, and on April 10, 2021, I took my first dip of the season. I have made it a goal to take a dip in the lake each month from April 2021 to April 2022.

Recently, I decided that if I am going to be doing a polar plunge each month, I should try to raise some money for a good cause. I want to do this because in 2019 my family suffered the loss of Brianna Downing at just 10 years old from a rare form of brain cancer. Brianna was a beautiful spirit that was spunky, so full of energy and this is something she would have loved.

When I complete this 12 month challenge, I will be donating the money I raise to David's House in Hanover, NH. David's House is a non profit organization that provides a place for families to stay during treatments through the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth.
