Support My 26.2 Mile Run Against Bladder Cancer

Tax deductible
Dear Friends and Family,

I’ve made a spontaneous yet meaningful decision: on February 16th I’ll be running my first marathon here in Austin, Texas. To make this milestone even more special, I’m dedicating my run to raise funds for the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN). This cause is deeply personal to me, as both of my parents have bravely faced battles with bladder cancer.

At 16, my world shifted when my mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer while going through a difficult divorce from her then-husband (not my dad). With limited resources, she spent countless hours at the public library, teaching herself about terms like “neobladder” and what life would look like after surgery. Her resilience paid off—today, she’s been cancer-free for 18 years.

Last summer, my dad, a physician, received the same diagnosis. Despite his medical background, navigating treatment options was daunting. Thankfully, BCAN connected him with a peer—a doctor of similar age who had faced the same journey. This connection provided invaluable support, answering numerous questions and offering guidance throughout his treatment.

Bladder cancer is a formidable adversary, affecting an estimated 84,870 people in the U.S. in 2025 alone. BCAN plays a crucial role in supporting patients and advancing research. Their mission is to increase public awareness, advance bladder cancer research, and provide educational and support services for the bladder cancer community.

On February 16, I’ll be running 26.2 miles through Austin’s iconic streets, passing landmarks like the Texas State Capitol and South Congress Avenue. As I take on this challenge, I’m asking for your support. Any contribution to BCAN can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by bladder cancer.

To further show my commitment, I will personally match every dollar donated before race day. No amount is too small; every bit helps in the fight against this disease.

Thank you for considering a donation and for being a part of this journey with me. Together, we can support BCAN’s vital work and honor the strength of all those affected by bladder cancer.

With utmost gratitude - Spencer
