I am raising funds for my Uncle Roger, a man whose resilience and dedication to his family has always inspired me. The funds raised will be used to support his family during this incredibly challenging time.

My Uncle Roger was born with a birth defect that led to 37 surgeries before he even turned 16. Despite these challenges, he took immense pride in his ability to work hard and provide for his family. He built a thriving business that supported not just himself, but also his wife and their four children, three of them are adopted children. For years, he was the rock of our family, always finding a way to make ends meet and ensure that everyone had what they needed.

However, everything changed in January 2022 when Uncle Roger was rushed to the hospital, unable to breathe. His blood pressure skyrocketed, his heart raced erratically, and he was in full A-Fib with congestive heart failure. The once vibrant man who had navigated life on crutches now found himself in the ICU, fighting for his life.

The hospital had a policy that required patients to sit up in a chair before they could leave the ICU. Despite his protests, he was forced to get up on his crutches. In that moment, his left foot gave out, and he was nearly carried to a chair. The pain was unbearable, and he had to be lifted back to bed with a Hoyer lift. It was a heartbreaking sight to see someone so strong reduced to such vulnerability.

In June 2022, he underwent fusion surgery on his foot to repair damage from his childhood surgeries. He spent twelve long weeks in a cast, and while he believed the incident in the ICU had caused this setback, there was no proof to hold the hospital accountable. After the cast came off, he faced months of physical therapy, but new challenges arose. Excruciating pain in his right shoulder led to the discovery that he needed shoulder replacement surgery, which he underwent in June 2023.

After the shoulder surgery, Uncle Roger spent four months in inpatient rehab, learning to walk on his crutches again. Unfortunately, the facility did not adequately care for his heart condition, and just a week after returning home, he was back in the ER, battling complications from congestive heart failure. His health continued to spiral, and during his five-and-a-half-week hospital stay, he contracted Covid-19.

When he was finally released in November 2023, he resumed physical therapy, determined to regain his independence. But in May 2024, another health crisis struck. His left hand swelled, causing intense pain and rendering his middle finger immobile. Emergency surgery was performed to clean out what was believed to be an infection, but despite weeks of intravenous antibiotics, his symptoms persisted. This setback interrupted his physical therapy, further delaying his recovery.

Throughout all of this, my Uncle’s business, which had thrived for 18 years, suffered tremendously. Without his focus and energy, clients canceled contracts, and the once-bustling enterprise became a shell of its former self. The financial strain on his family has been overwhelming, and they are struggling to make ends meet.

I am asking for your help. My Uncle Roger has always been a fighter, but he needs our support now more than ever. Your donations will go directly to helping his family navigate this challenging time, ensuring they have the resources they need to get through this crisis.

Please consider donating now. Even $20 can make a difference and it can help pay for his families expenses as well as uninsured medical expenses.

Thank you for your kindness and support. Together, we can help my Uncle Roger and his family find hope and healing in this challenging journey.
