Hello. We are Phillip & Barbara Porter, and we are writing this on behalf of our son, Eric Pruitt, and his young family.

For over five years, Eric struggled with severe problems in his feet. Despite constant pain, he continued working and providing for his family as best he could. Last year, when the pain became unbearable and his ability to work was slipping away, he was finally told that surgery was necessary.

Eric had no medical insurance, as he had just lost his job.

As parents, we couldn’t watch our son suffer and lose everything, so Phillip and I paid for his surgery ourselves, believing the doctors when we were told he would be walking again and back to work soon.

That was nine months ago.

Today, Eric still cannot walk.

He remains on a scooter, unable to return to work, and his condition has turned his family’s world upside down. What we hoped would be a short recovery has become a life-altering situation.

Because he has been unable to work, he is on the verge of losing his home, his vehicle, and everything his family depends on.

Phillip and I are now retired and living on Social Security. We saved carefully for our future, never imagining we would also be trying to support another family of four at this stage of our lives. We are doing everything we possibly can, but we have reached the point where we simply cannot do this alone anymore.

We love our son.

We love our daughter-in-law.

We love our grandsons more than words can express.

Watching them face homelessness and financial collapse has been absolutely devastating.

This fundraiser is being created not just to help Eric survive this crisis — but to give his family the chance to stay together, stay housed, and hold onto hope while he continues his recovery and searches for a way forward.

Any amount you can give will go directly toward:

   •   Preventing the loss of their home

   •   Keeping transportation so Eric can reach medical care

   •   Providing basic living needs for the family

   •   Giving them time to rebuild and recover
