John is currently in hospital in Thailand and has been admitted to ICU. The doctors are still carrying out investigations, but at this stage it appears that he has late-stage cancer affecting his spine. Alongside this, he is also being treated for an infection.
Right now, the priority is keeping John stable and comfortable, and getting him home to England as quickly and safely as possible.
Medical costs have risen extremely quickly. So far, treatment has cost around £5,000, and John has only been in hospital for just over 24 hours. Ongoing care is expected to be at least £2,500 per day, meaning the bill continues to rise rapidly.
We are urgently trying to arrange repatriation to the UK. The preferred option, if approved by the doctors, is a commercial flight with a stretcher, estimated to cost £30,000–£80,000. If this isn’t medically possible, a private medical flight may be required.
John does have some assets that should ultimately cover these costs, but the immediate challenge is accessing those funds quickly enough to deal with urgent hospital bills and to secure transport home.
We are seeking legal advice and doing everything we can, but we now need short-term help to bridge this gap — whether through donations, sharing this page, or offering advice or connections that might help us move faster.
Anything you are able to give, whether financial support or simply sharing this page, will help us bring John home at the first possible opportunity.
We are incredibly grateful for any support.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting us during this incredibly difficult time.
With love,
Ruth, Naomi & Leah
