Please Help this Weegie Help People in Fiji

I have never done anything like this before so please bear with me if this all sounds a bit confusing:

I’ve been selected to be part of a group of volunteers going to work with people in Fiji to promote sustainable development goals!

The only catch is that it turns out that this once in a lifetime opportunity is actually really expensive and I have to let the organisers know by Monday the 15th of May if I can take the place or not.

A wee bit of background: as most of you already know, I’m just finishing my first year at Uni, studying Law. It’s been a hard year, my health was really challenging, and there’s been a few ups and downs, but got there in the end! During that year, I got to know some really lovely, amazing people, and some of those people had done similar work before. As you know, I’m a Woodie, and always keen to help people and the planet, but I was a wee bit sceptical about this project, I really don’t want to be involved in a ‘white saviour’ kind of situation, but this is a relatively small organisation and they really do seem to be working in collaboration with local people, at a grassroots level, making really positive differences both environmentally and in mental health.

Now the hard bit: although I’ve managed to make it through the selection process and been successful in applying for grants, I’m still short in terms of funding. I have written more applications to trusts and charities than I can actually remember, and so I’m really at a bit of a sticking point here, so I’m swallowing all pride and asking that if you possibly can, I’d be really grateful for any contributions towards this. I considered doing a sponsored walk, but my mobility fluctuates, and didn’t want to fail at that and let you all down. Other idea was that I would ask for sponsorship and in return I’d shave my head (!), but it turns out that this might not be well received in Fiji.

I’d be really grateful for any donations at all, and if you’re interested in the work I’m hoping to do, then I’d be really happy to send you a wee summary of it all.

I really appreciate you taking the time to read all of this, and have just finished exams, so my head is a bit all over the place!

If you can’t help with this, I completely understand. Many of you have helped in so many ways over the last few years, and I’m really grateful for all of the support I’ve been shown, and that means more than anything.
