Many of you have heard me talk about our best friends, Mitch, Alyssa, and their beautiful 11 month old daughter, Caroline. For those of you that don’t know, when Caroline was born she was diagnosed profoundly deaf and is in the 1% that doesn’t have cochlear nerves. This means that there is a very small chance that cochlear implants will allow her to regain some hearing, but this has not stopped Mitch and Alyssa from doing everything they can to give her the best life possible. While Mitch is serving our country as an officer in the Marine Corp, Alyssa recently had to quit her job as a financial analyst to be there for sweet Caroline. Their family has being staying strong and exploring the best options for her. After many, many doctor appointments and sleepless nights of research their family has decided to move forward with the cochlear implantation. Due to Caroline’s unique diagnoses, this is a risky surgery and requires a specialist. They have found the perfect doctor, but he is located in New York. This means traveling across the country for the surgery, staying for weeks at a time and multiple follow up appointments.

This is going to put a lot of financial pressure on a family that has already been through so much. Anything we can do as a community to support them and relieve some of these burdens will go a long way. Any funds raised will go directly to the Melton family to cover expenses related to Caroline’s surgery.
