My husband passed away suddenly in 2015, and he didn’t have life insurance at the time. In 2017, we lost our home and have been renting an apartment since then.

We have 5 kids total, and 3 were over 18 when he passed. Our 2 youngest, Riley and Bailey, were almost 15 and 17, respectively. We bounced back and have been doing relatively okay since.

In March, I was diagnosed with cancer, Leiomyosarcoma to be exact. I have a smooth muscle tumor in my thigh, but it’s a really aggressive form of cancer and is spreading quickly. A few weeks ago, the latest scans showed that the cancer is not responding to chemotherapy. Worse yet, it has spread to my lungs, liver, possibly my spine, and even the inside of my skull.

My death will have the greatest financial impact on my daughter Bailey. She and I share an apartment and split expenses. Bailey has some disabilities that she struggles with, like Autism, ADHD, and OCD. She works but doesn’t earn enough for her own apartment, so she will either have to find a roommate, which may be especially challenging for her, or possibly move into a studio nearby if she can find one that she can afford.

The worry I have is that she could become homeless within weeks of my death. She doesn’t drive, so she can’t even move into a car. The anxiety and fear of what will happen to her haunts me all day and night, every day.

I don’t have life insurance, and neither one of us has any savings to speak of. Like so many Americans today, we truly live paycheck to paycheck.

I’m hoping to raise some funds to help her compensate for my loss of income when I die.
