Hi I'm Tracey & Steve was my running buddy. Steve & Cheri-Ann are a lovely couple with three lovely children. Unfortunately Steve's insurance does not cover for situations like this. Please can you help as Steve is looking at a long recovery ahead & SSP is not going to last long. Cheri-Ann doesn't drive, and is relying on lifts & public transport to get to the hospital.
Please read Steve's journey so far:
It's with a heavy heart that i tell everyone the last 48hrs have been hell on earth.
Steve contracted a deadly bug in his leg on Tuesday & was in a bad way by Wednesday. Frome casulty then blue lighted to RUH. Straight in for major surgery on his leg. Then in ICU in Bath in an induced coma, dialysis & breathing ventilator. The surgery on his leg so far looks successful & he had about 18%-20% of flesh taken off. His body is now fighting sepsis. Steve is fighting this.
The disease Steve had in leg is called group A Strep A Necrotizing fasciitis. His body went into toxic shock syndrome where it starts to close down your organs. Steve is still on dialysis for this.
Steve is still in ICU & has now had his leg vacuum packed to avoid infection as its an open wound. He has had a pain blocker put in his back, so he will feel no pain in the leg. I am pleased to say that today (day 6) he was taken off ventilator and had sedation lowered to start bringing him round. It may take a few days for him to come round completely & fully but he did start too today and i feel so blessed to see this.
Steve may have a slight infection as temp keeps going up. So they put another line in, his leg dripping again so needs to get looked at again tomorrow.
There is then talk of sending Steve to Bristol hospital for plastic surgery to begin on his leg.
Steve has a long road of recovery ahead.
