Hello friend,
My name is Alicja Grant. I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend and co-worker, Adrienne Neely, and her sweet family.
Adrienne is a single mom with a full time job, and 5 kiddos (2 of the older ones living currently out of state until summer) who has been going through some rough times. All of us who are moms, know the sheer amount of responsibilities we need to juggle makes us a combination of nurturer, caregiver, teacher, nurse, cheerleader, disciplinarian and more. If there is something even more challenging than being a mother, though, it is being a single mother with no parents/family to help you out… Last year with the help of my wonderful friends, and neighbors, I was able to gather winter jackets, shoes, and other means for the whole family. This year the story is a bit different, and so I ask you to please take a moment out of your busy day, and read these few lines you probably have read many many times before. I hope, and believe, that we can, and we will come together as a community, and help this family feel safe again. They need our grace not our judgment.
“My name is Adrienne. I am a 35 year old mom of 5, 3 of which currently live with me. At the end of 2022, I was able to finally get a restraining order against my ex-husband for domestic violence, assault, and stalking. Once the restraining order was put into place, I moved my kids and I from Kansas to Oregon. We moved in March 2023. My house went on the market in April 2023 and sold in May, however, because I had a joint deed with my mother and her bank account was linked to the mortgage, when the house sold, she kept the funds for herself. I finally found work in August 2023 after finally, finding somewhere to live in May 2023. Before May, we stayed in a Motel 6. The money from the sale of the house was supposed to keep me afloat and help with the relocation. I work full-time, I have applied for as much government help as I can, and my boyfriend works overtime just to help us survive. I get paid once a month on the 20th and that money goes to the current months rent. Once that payment is made my bank account sits empty. I currently have five dollars in my bank account and about $8000 worth of bills due. I’m at a loss of what steps I can take to fix this. I cannot lose my housing or my children. We have nowhere else to go. I know that God put me on Earth for a reason. Part of my life’s meaning comes from discovering that reason and living it out to the best of my ability”.
From Alicja: the $8000 is to help cover the back rent, insurance and medical bills.
Thank you for reading!
