Please Help Save Sabi and His Family
Donation protected
Hi friends, this is Ken Baun, and I’m raising money on behalf of my friend Sabi and his family who are at grave risk. Sabi held a very prominent and very public position with a U.S. aid organization in Afghanistan, and when it fell, he became a very wanted man. After hiding from the Taliban for over a year, several months ago he was able to flee the country and come to the U.S. (where we met), leaving his wife, five kids and several family members behind. The Taliban now know that he has fled and are threatening his kids unless he returns, and Sabi may need to go back and sacrifice himself to save them. But there is another way. We had been raising money to buy Pakistani visas for the 13-member extended family (a $700 per person “fee” imposed by embassy staff), but GoFundMe now will not allow the money to be used for extra-legal expenses. They will however allow the money to be used to support the family once they get out of Afghanistan. Knowing that, an amazing benefactor has stepped up to provide the visa fee separately, and Sabi is currently securing visas using those funds. Anything raised through this donation appeal will now be used to support the family once they are out of Afghanistan until they can become self-sufficient. Those who know me and my work with refugees (and with Sabi) will vouch for the authenticity of this appeal.
In the interest of stealth and security, Sabi is not his real name, we haven’t included any pictures (as incredibly compelling as they would be), and we’re avoiding social media. If you’d like to help, please share this link with your network via email and text only.
And finally, though I know Sabi through my former work with Open Doors for Refugees, this is strictly a personal appeal and is not in any way sponsored or undertaken as an Open Doors’ activity.
With immense gratitude,
Ken
