Please Help Us Continue Our Good Work

The Westway Community & Wellbeing Centre is a critical community hub for the people of Caterham and surrounding areas. We provide a safe and social environment for people to come and meet others, enjoy activities and receive support.

Throughout the week, there is a wide programme of social events, including music, dancing, exercise, bowling, crafts and quizzes, plus much more. We also have an amazing team of volunteers helping with people’s shopping and prescriptions, delivering meals on wheels, arranging benefits, and so much more! Working with partners, we ensure the community receives important services locally – baby and family services, and hearing aid repair along with reduced rate haircuts and podiatry - you can even learn English or IT skills. We can provide support if you’re feeling down as well as a hot meal or an emergency food parcel; we offer so much!

Everyone is included, and people tell us (both service users and volunteers) that the Westway is a lifeline. Our members and guests of all ages come to us for practical help and friendship. During difficult times we phone or drop round to check people are Ok. This, we know has ensured the safety of many; we even arranged essential medical care for one of our members found lying on the floor after a serious fall – we don’t want anyone to feel lonely or isolated!

In 2020, when Covid struck, The Westway joined forces with others and became the response group for the local area, ringing people, delivering food, cash, information and supplies seven days a week. The moment we could, we resumed group sessions at a time when everyone and everything else was closed. We supported a GP-led Covid vaccine centre for 12 months; the community coming together, with volunteers helping out in all weather so 76,000 jabs could be given.

Looking back now thinking of all the people who helped us get through such a difficult period and all the friends we’ve made along the way (Rotary, Parish Councils, Foodbank, Salvation Army, CAB, TVA, and local schools to name just a few), it was a proud moment when the Westway won an award recently for the services we provided together.

We were there when our community needed us the most!

As we have all seen in the news, inflation and energy prices have increased so much that our bills have more than tripled since June. Like all businesses, charities are not protected from price hikes.

The Trustees of the Westway are reaching out to our community to ask for donations to help us keep up our good work. We know money is tight at the moment, but please, if you can spare some cash, it will help us continue to provide valuable support to local people.

We would love you to visit our website, Facebook or Instagram page to really see what we get up to.

Thank you so much for your support!
