Hi Everyone! I am Angie, Randy's sister in law(Missy's sister). On November 18th I got a phone call from Missy crying saying Randy was being airlifted to Wausau because he had a heart aneurysm. I immediately met her up there and waited for what felt like forever until the surgeon came out to let us know what was going on. He was in surgery for 6 hours already. He was on bypass and they had to drop his body temperature before they could perform the surgery. The surgeon said he wouldn't stop bleeding due to medication that he was on. They had to cut his blood supply off to his brain and arms for an hour. So they weren't sure what the outcome could be from that. He ended up having an aortic dissection with a valve replacement. We waited 2 weeks of not knowing.. of him staring at the ceiling.. only blinking.. some nodding when they tried taking him off sedation and the ventilator here and there... nurses saying we just had to give it time. In the mean time one of his lungs had collapsed and they had to put a tube in it. It broke my heart to see him that way. If anyone knows Randy, he would give you the shirt off his back! They were able to finally get him off the ventilator on December 3rd. He was still in the cardiac ICU for a week and than went into rehab on December 10th. Well Randy is one determined man! He has worked so hard to rebuild all of his strength. His left vocal chord was paralyzed, so he can't speak all but a whisper. It could take 6-12 months to get it back.. if it comes back. He had to learn to walk again and use his hands again. That was really hard to see. But not once did I see him get frustrated or embarrassed about it.. he had his mind set on getting out of the hospital. He worked so hard. His doctor said it would be 4-6 weeks but with the way he was improving, he could get out by Christmas Eve! Well here we are and he's being released today! So with that being said... my sister has gone to the hospital all but two days in this last 5 weeks. It's an hour and a half drive for her. Her work has been so amazing with this tragic situation. Hes soooo lucky to be alive! But that doesn't help that he's been off of work. Although he has a great job and will get disability.. that won't help cover all of their expenses. When it comes to gas, household expenses and medical bills. Please help them any way you can. You know they would do the same for you. I love my sister and brother in law so much! ❤️
