Hi, my name is Debbie Davies and I am fundraising on behalf of my dear friend, Rosie Turner, who is the founder of Desperate Dogs Of Azerbaijan (DDA)

Rosie is a Canadian citizen who arrived in Azerbaijan five years ago for work.

As an animal lover, Rosie was immediately shocked by the treatment of stray dogs and cats. They are regularly culled from the streets by methods which are far from humane and Rosie could not just ignore their plight.

Rosie started by rescuing a few dogs & cats and placing them in foster care but soon realised that this was not sustainable with the number of animals needing help.

We managed to rent some land and now have 185 dogs and 29 cats at our main DDA shelter on the outskirts of Baku which is funded solely by donations.

Rosie was recently alerted to the plight of a dog in city several miles from Baku where there had been a mass cull of stray dogs. The poor soul was clearly in a very bad way but fortunately Rosie managed to find him and rushed him

straight to the vet.

X-Rays showed that this poor soul had six bullets in his body as well as suffering from Leishmaniosis which is a very severe skin disease.

Sadly, it is too risky to try and remove the bullets but this brave boy is currently receiving treatment in intensive care and has a very strong will to live. He is already eating and trying to move around and we have named him Melchior.

We remain positive about Melchior’s recovery but it will be long and slow and he will not be strong enough to go to our shelter for quite some time.

It costs £16 per day for intensive care plus medication and we desperately need more funds to know that we can continue to care for him.

it is a miracle that this dear boy is alive and he really deserves a chance, we cannot fail him.
