August 16th Update:
Emma came home this week! It has been a hard transition home for Emma as returning home does not mean things are back to normal. Her activities are still very limited but she is making the best of it with her arts and crafts. She has had many appointments already this week including an emergency trip back down to Hopkins dental when her splint came off of her tooth. Her head aches and double vision have still been persisting. She still needs lots of rest but continues to amaze us each day with her courage and positive attitude.
August 11th Update:
Emma is able to now walk unassisted in the hallway. She is thriving in PT and OT. Emma had her feeding tube removed and is eating well although the hospital told her she could have unlimited ice cream so her main diet has been ice cream. Her Speech and Language Pathologist still has some concerns about her cognitive answers and will be getting an IEP for school this year. While other things have come easier for Emma during this time such as taking up the piano and doing lots of arts and crafts.
When she is discharged she will have many follow ups with Speech and Language, OT, PT, Dental, Orthodontists, Kennedy Krieger Brain Injury Clinic and Concussion Clinic, along with counseling services, and Ophthalmology.

August 7th Update:
Emma continues to make progress. She has been able to walk (with assistance) in the hallway outside her hospital room. She is still faced with her vision limitations. She was able to stay awake longer today than she has so far but still tires easily. She was approved by the SLP to swallow but has not had much of an appetite yet. The progress she has made so far has been incredible. Just as incredible is all the support that the community has given them. Thank you again to all who have donated so far. And a special thank you to Emma’s gymnastics and dance teams for the many cards that Emma has received. Kelcie continues to not leave Emma’s side. Jake is recovering at home and Liam is eagerly awaiting everyone’s return from his Nana’s home.
August 5th Update:
Emma has been moved from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit to a step down unit. She has been able to verbally communicate and remembers who she is. She was able to take a couple steps today while being held up. She still has the NG tube and will have another MRI tonight to try to determine why her pain is still severe. She is experiencing double vision and limitations to her range of vision. She is making tremendous strides but has an extremely long journey ahead. We want to thank everyone who has donated what they can and reached out. Jake and Kelcie will be out of work for the foreseeable future and will be faced with quite the financial burden. What matters most is bringing Emma home.
As many of you know my sister-in-law Kelcie and her family, Jake, Emma, and Liam, were involved in a bad motor vehicle accident on Thursday night. Emma, Liam, and Jake were flown to Johns Hopkins and admitted, and Kelcie was checked at the emergency room and released. Liam was discharged on Friday morning with minor injuries and Jake was discharged on Friday afternoon with 5 broken ribs and a broken vertebrae. He is now resting at home in bed with limited mobility. Emma has been in the Pediatric Intensive care unit since Thursday night. She has suffered a significant traumatic brain injury, significant damage to her mouth, and a fractured vertebrae in her neck. She is improving each day and even asked about missing camp this morning, but has a long road to recovery. Kelcie has been by her side this whole time.
This has been a very traumatic experience for the whole family. They will have many extensive medical bills along with having to purchase a new car. Kelcie and Jake do not know when they will be able to return to work. Any size donation is helpful and very appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated and kept the Gold family in your thoughts and prayers. Myself and Kelcie’s mom, Karen Beardsley, will be running the page and keep you updated with their progress as we have news.
