Hi my name is Myra

Last year, my mom in the Philippines was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) — a serious and aggressive bone marrow disease. She bravely completed two cycles of chemotherapy without fully knowing how aggressive her illness would become.

When I learned more about her condition, I immediately went home because I didn’t want to live with regrets. I surprised her, and the look on her face was something I will never forget. She told me she finally felt comfortable and at ease because I was beside her.

But only days later, she developed severe abdominal pain due to complications from her MDS. Her blood counts dropped drastically, and she was diagnosed with neutropenic enterocolitis. She was hospitalized and even had to celebrate her birthday in the hospital — something none of us had planned. Despite all the treatments and prayers, her condition did not improve.

As much as it broke my heart, I had to return to work to continue supporting her medical needs and daily expenses. I explained to her that I needed to go back so I could sustain her care. On the day of my flight, even while she was suffering, she was more worried about me being late to the airport. That’s who she is — always thinking of her child before herself.

Shortly after I arrived back, she told her doctor that she was tired and wanted to go home. It was one of the hardest decisions we have ever made, but knowing she was exhausted and wanted peace, we honored her wish. She is now on palliative care.

Every time I tell her that I will come home again to be with her, she tells me no. She doesn’t want me to stop working because she knows I am doing this for her. She is being selfless, even now.

Our family has already been financially drained due to hospital bills, treatments, medications, and the expenses from my previous emergency travel home. As much as I don’t want to ask for help, we have reached a point where we truly cannot do this alone anymore.

She is going through this mostly without me physically by her side. My brother-in-law and some close relatives are helping, but as her daughter, it is incredibly painful knowing my mom is facing this chapter of her life without me there. No daughter should feel this helpless.

I am humbly asking for your help so I can go home again — to hold her hand, to comfort her, to spend precious time with her, and to make sure she does not feel alone. Your support will help cover travel expenses and ongoing medical and palliative care needs.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your prayers, kindness, and generosity. Every share, every donation, and every message means so much to our family during this difficult time.

Help me see my mom again.
