My name is Wanda Leigh, and my friend Ruth Miller is organizing this campaign for me.

I’m reaching out to share something very personal and important with you.

I am a 79-year-old senior trying to live on a meager fixed income in Asheville, NC. About five years ago, I became legally blind.

My doctors have determined that there is currently no treatment available that can restore my vision.

Losing my sight changed every aspect of my life. Before becoming functionally blind, I was an artist, and creating art filled my life with joy and purpose.

Today, even performing simple daily tasks has become very difficult, and finding safe, affordable housing has become my greatest challenge.

The wait time is years for HUD housing, and many of the less expensive apartments are in areas where I do not feel safe.

As I have no family who can afford to help me, I am turning to you.

The best permanent alternative to my increasingly precarious housing situation is to purchase a small tiny home in a quiet 55-plus community, where I can remain safe and continue living independently.

Every donation, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to having a safe, affordable permanent place to live.

My initial goal is to raise sufficient funds for a down payment on a tiny home. Any additional funds donated will be used to cover setup costs, utility connection, and other essentials to make the home safe and livable.
