Please help me to contribute: Internship Cambodia

Hallo! Mijn naam is Isabeau. In Februari 2022 ben ik gestart met de minor Global Development Issues. Tijdens deze minor leer ik veel over ontwikkelingsproblemen in de wereld, maar ook over interculturele communicatie en rechtvaardigheid. Als onderdeel van deze minor, in juni 2022, zal ik 6 weken lang naar Cambodja gaan om daar aan het werk te gaan bij het Treak Community Centre in Treak Village, nabij Siem Reap. 

Treak Village is een typisch Cambodjaans dorpje, 4 KM van Siem Reap. Wanneer je je hier waant, ga je zo 100 jaar terug in de tijd. 30 van de in totaal 350 families die daar leeft leeft in grote armoede en heeft geen land, werk, spaargeld of hulp van familieleden. Deze families kunnen niet opdraaien voor de kosten voor educatie voor hun kinderen, waardoor zij geen banen kunnen krijgen in de toekomst en deze cyclus van armoede weer helemaal opnieuw begint. 

Hoe ga ik helpen?

Ik ga naar Cambodja om mijn skills die ik opgedaan heb in mijn eigen vakgebied, Human Resources, in te zetten. Dit ga ik op 2 manieren doen:

1. De Corona-crisis heeft ook hier grote invloed gehad op de economie en de werkgelegenheid. Nu de situatie langzaam weer verbeterd is mij gevraagd om de werkgelegenheid te onderzoeken. Denk hierbij aan welke nieuwe banen er ontstaan en welke weer terugkomen post-Corona. Deze informatie zal gebruikt worden om de jongvolwassenen in het dorp te adviseren over potentiële banen en carrières om ze zo een duidelijker toekomstperspectief te kunnen bieden. 

2. Het aantal werknemers van Treak Community is in de afgelopen 7 jaar verdubbeld. Eind 2019 is er een start gemaakt aan het opzetten van een systeem voor het bijhouden van beoordelingsgesprekken om het personeel te kunnen ondersteunen in hun ontwikkeling. Vanwege de gebeurtenissen van de afgelopen 2 jaar is dit project stil komen te liggen. Mij is gevraagd om dit project weer op te pakken en te implementeren.

(Ik zal niet betaald worden voor mijn bijdrages aan het Treak Community Centre, dit is op vrijwillige basis)

Waar gaat uw geld naartoe?

Om mijn complete reis te kunnen bekostigen zal ik ten minste €2.200 nodig hebben. Dit is voor het vliegticket (zoals aangegeven door www.skyscanner.nl), mijn verblijf en services van de organisatie die mij heeft gekoppeld aan het project (voor een overzicht van de kosten vanuit de organisatie, zie https://purevolunteer.nl/kosten-transparantie-overzicht/).

Waarom crowdfunding?

Reizen is helaas niet goedkoop, maar deze ervaring om te leren en de kans om een kleine bijdrage te leveren aan het Treak Community Centre kon ik niet laten liggen! Om de kosten toch enigszins overzichtelijk te maken hoop ik dat u een kleine bijdrage wil doen en mij wil helpen om mijn doelen te behalen: Een klein verschil kunnen maken met een ongetwijfelt grote leeropbrengst voor mij!

Hi! My name is Isabeau. In Feb. 2022, I started the minor in Global Development Issues. During this minor, I learn a lot about development issues around the world, as well as intercultural communication and justice. As part of this minor, in June 2022, I will go to Cambodia for 6 weeks to work as a volunteer at the Treak Community Centre in Treak Village, near Siem Reap.

Treak Village is a typical Cambodian village, 4 KM from Siem Reap. When you imagine yourself here, you go back in time 100 years. 30 of the total of 350 families living there live in extreme poverty and have no land, work, savings, or help from family members. These families cannot pay for their children's education, so they cannot get jobs in the future and this cycle of poverty starts all over again.

How will I help?

I am going to Cambodia to use the skills that I have gained in my own field of work, Human Resources. I am going to do this in 2 ways:

1. The Corona crisis has also had a major impact on the economy and employment in Cambodia. Now that the situation is slowly improving, I have been asked to research job opportunities. Think about what new jobs are created and which ones came back post-Covid. This information will be used to advise the young adults in the village about potential jobs and careers in order to provide them with a clearer future perspective.

2. Treak Community's workforce has doubled in the past 7 years. At the end of 2019, they started with designing a basic staff appraisal system. Due to the events of the past 2 years, this system has not been implemented yet. I have been asked to take up this project again and implement it.

(I will not be paid for my contributions to the Treak Community Centre, this is on a voluntary basis)

Where does your money go?

To pay for my trip I will need at least €2.200. Why crowdfunding?

Traveling is, unfortunately, not cheap, but I could never resist this experience and the opportunity to make a small contribution to the Treak Community Centre! To make paying for this trip a little bit easier I hope you would like to make a small contribution and help me to achieve my goals: To make a small difference and have an undoubtedly big learning experience!
