I’m sharing this on behalf of my dear friend, “Lidia,” who has asked me to keep her identity private for her safety.

Just over a week ago, Lidia and her 6-month-old baby girl were caught in a horrific house fire deliberately set by her ex-husband. With the help of a neighbour, they managed to escape, but both suffered from smoke exposure and burns.

At first, her baby girl seemed to be doing okay. She was alert, and even in the middle of this nightmare, her funny, sassy personality was shining through. But a few days later, she began coughing and struggling to breathe. Doctors explained that the smoke had caused hidden damage to her tiny lungs. Despite fighting bravely, her little body could not recover, and she tragically passed away from complications caused by smoke inhalation.

Her daughter was only 6 months old — beautiful, sassy, and so full of light. In her short time here, she brought endless joy and love to everyone around her. Losing her has left a hole in Lidia’s heart that can never be filled.

Now Lidia is left grieving this unimaginable loss while also recovering from her own injuries. Doctors have told her she cannot return to work for 8–12 weeks, leaving her unable to cover even basic expenses. On top of that, she now faces funeral and memorial costs for her baby girl, along with the struggle of rebuilding her life from nothing.

Funds raised will go toward:

• Funeral and memorial costs to honor her daughter

• Rent and bills to keep a roof over her head during recovery

• Medication and medical treatment for her burns (without benefits)

• Food and essentials as she slowly begins to heal
