Dear Friends & Community, 

I'm saddened to share our kids' beloved P.E. teacher, Mr. Kirby, is no longer teaching at Hoover and Washington Elementary Schools. Despite his tireless efforts to engage our children and inspire health and wellness in a new generation,  he was reluctantly forced to resign after his request to continue teaching remotely to care for his daughter and stage 4 cancer-stricken father-in-law was denied by the school's administration. For those of you that have not had the opportunity of seeing him teach in person, Mr. Kirby is engaging, knowledgeable, and deeply passionate about his job as an educator. When my kids were experiencing zoom fatigue and struggling to maintain attention during long days of distance learning, Mr. Kirby's classes always brought smiles to their faces and a sweat to their brows. 

This is somebody who, at the age of 43 with a litany of previous sports injuries, taught for 2 schools while carrying out 12 live zoom classes of P.E. a week, when other P.E. teachers taught 6 respectively. Mr. Kirby was also the first P.E. teacher to hold live classes last year in early April, and created a model for his colleagues to follow, which they did. He was asked by the Burlingame School District early in the pandemic to hold live classes, and succeeded, when most of the curriculum was filled with pre-recordings and independent assignments.
