Hi everyone! I am reaching out because there is a very special little girl and foster family that needs our help tremendously! Due to privacy concerns, I cannot disclose names.

3.5 years ago “Baby Jane” (then 6 weeks old), who is known to me personally, was removed from her mother’s home, as the result of a domestic abuse incident involving the mother. She was placed in the home of a 30+ year licensed foster care family that includes 4 biological adult children and two pre-teen foster girls, who now have been adopted by this family. After DCFS returned Baby Jane, for a short stay with her mother, the mother voluntarily and lovingly gave permanent guardianship of Baby Jane to this foster family whom she came to know, as she began to rebuild her life, and learn how to be a mother.

Unfortunately, the young mother succumbed to her battle with heroin, and died at the age of 18, leaving Baby Jane to be cared for by this family. For 2 more years this family raised Baby Jane with no support or contact from the alleged father. Wanting to make Baby Jane a permanent member of their family, they initiated the legal adoption process.

The alleged father has a history of not only drug abuse, but gang affiliation, and presently one conviction of statutory rape (of Baby Jane's late mother). He is currently in prison, in part from that rape. As a ward of the state he is provided with a free attorney to contest the adoption of Baby Jane, whom he “claims” is his. To date, no biological testing has confirmed that claim. For nearly a year now he has somehow been able to block that adoption and cause the adoptive family to incur nearly $20k in legal bills, prior to any hearing to adjudicate his rights to Baby Jane. If he is determined to be the biological father, we are hopeful that the courts will agree that he has not met “any” of the criteria mandated by statute to maintain parental rights.

In that instance, the adoption would then need to proceed to a full-blown hearing, with several witnesses and such, causing the family to incur an estimated additional $20,000+. Having four children of their own (two in college) and two other adopted young girls, whom Baby Jane has bonded with as sisters, the family is being significantly stretched to continue the fight to keep Baby Jane as part of their family.

I personally and intimately knew the deceased mother and know the family; there was reason why the mother voluntarily placed Baby Jane with a family outside of her own. Please help this family keep Baby Jane with the only family she has ever known. 100% of any money raised, that does not go directly to legal fees, will be placed in a trust, in the name of Baby Jane. The seriousness of this is very time-sensitive. There are many, many other serious concerns and dangers with Baby Jane being placed with the alleged father.

First and foremost please pray for Baby Jand and her foster family. I truly believe in the power of prayer.

Anyone who has been through custody battles and adoption knows the financial and emotional/mental aspects of these situations. All in all, we want to keep Baby Jane safe and protected and with her foster family. The foster family is the only family Baby Jane knows. I personally know the foster family and personally knew the alleged father and birth mother. I am only sharing this story because I know the circumstances and how we have to win this battle for Baby Jane. Thank you all for your prayers and financial support!
