I have a disabled sister Linda. GO FUND ME HAS A GLITCH AND LINDAS NAME SHOWS UP AS HAILEY. not sure how long for them to fix their error.
She continues to work a few hours per week and gets paid sporadically and at uneven times.
Her current PT job is at risk and not secure in any way. My sister is very smart and is a great person who continue helping others even with her limitations. She has worked hard and a few years ago saved enough and continues to live in a small house in Michigan. Yesterday, without her knowledge, her email was hacked and she responded to an email from Synchrony bank. This is her credit card for Amazon. It said, her "monthly statement was ready to view on-line", it always looks this way. It said "log-in now" to make a payment. It then pulled up a screen and it said, "We apologize we are currently experiencing technical difficulties, and we are unable to access your account." Then it suggested trying again.
She looked an couldn't find a good number at amazon.com to call.
She then called what she thought was an amazoncustomerservicenumber. It gets a little unclear here, but she thinks she talked to someone at [phone redacted]. At the 833 number, she spoke with someone for 35 minutes. Somone gave her a case ID # and was told she was hacked. (her name Hailey Morgan) case ID #2002ftc.
Then: She was then told the FTC was going to call back on a recorded line. Someone from number, [phone redacted] called and said his name was "Noah J. Phillips from the FTC which was part of the federal government." He provided a badge number FTC93257. He worked with fraud and criminal cases. They instructed her to take out all of your money from her bank except a few dollars. They then sent her to get gift cards from Home Depot, and Ebay. (home depot was 6 cards at 500$ each. 2 at Ebay at 200$ each) She then read the numbers off the cards over the phone to these guys. They then said they would file the report and to bring her receipts and the govt would write her a cashiers check the next morning. "make sure you have receipts"
All of this was to "catch" the crooks and the case needed to be built against the scammers and the to actually get money from her.
Please don't lecture her at this point. She is way past embarrassed, sad and nearly hopeless. Her nest egg and house payment etc for this month are gone.
If you can afford even 5$ she would appreciate it.
Please help....
