I am creating this gofundme on behalf of my sister's family whose living situation has been impacted by a recent life-altering injury that occurred in their home.

On the night of December 15th, Stephen Banks suffered a freak injury in the home, resulting in extensive injury to his left eye. After undergoing treatment, including immediate emergency surgery, he has limited vision in that eye, and it is still unclear if he will ever regain his sight. Treatment is still ongoing, with multiple upcoming pending surgeries and scheduled consultations. These injuries have put his income in jeopardy .

Stephen is the primary provider for his family because his wife (and my sister), Amber Banks, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome in 2017, and has not been cleared to return to work on anything beyond a casual basis. With Stephen in treatment and his career now in question, they collectively fear for their ability to provide for three children.

Their first child has ongoing respiratory issues and chronic kidney disease requiring frequent medical care, and still has specialists providing therapy when and as needed.

Their middle child is a Type-1 diabetic and immuno-compromised. This means he needs frequent checkups and exams, and 24/7 monitoring of his blood-glucose levels.

Their youngest will be attending Kindergarten next year and very recently was given a new diagnosis. The family is digesting this news and working to better understand the additional needs for the start of his school career.

We are making this plea to appeal to the kindness of anyone who is able to assist their family through this difficult period.
