Field the Future: Lincoln

Every Kid. Every Game. Every Field.

Lincoln Youth Athletics is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to enhancing youth sports opportunities across Lincoln, beginning with the fields themselves.

We’re launching our first major project: a $1.2 million public-private partnership to transform two ballfields at Jensen Park in southeast Lincoln. These improvements will ensure every kid has a quality field to play on, every game is safer and more fun, and every field reflects the excellence our kids deserve.

We’ve secured support from the City of Lincoln and identified a competitive $600,000 grant, but to unlock that funding, we need to raise $300,000 in private donations from our community.

Your donation will directly help us:

  • Rebuild infields and outfield turf.
  • Install new dugouts, fencing, and lighting.
  • Improve spectator seating, ADA access, restrooms, and parking.
  • Create a modern, welcoming space for kids and families alike.

Together, we can create a model for the future of youth sports in Lincoln. Let’s build it together—from the ground up.

Goal: $300,000 (private match required for grant)
Project Site: Jensen Park (Yankee Hill & 84th St.)
Project Timeline: If funding is awarded, construction begins in Fall 2026

Project Details: In response to community feedback gathered last summer, Lincoln Parks & Recreation identified a competitive grant opportunity that could bring $1.2 million in improvements to Jensen Park:

Funding Breakdown:

  • Total Project Cost: $1.2 million
  • Competitive Grant Funds: $600,000
  • Required Local Match: $600,000
  • City of Lincoln: $300,000
  • Private Donations Needed: $300,000

Potential Improvements Include:

  • Regrading/reconstruction of infields
  • Rehabilitation of outfield turf
  • Subsurface irrigation system
  • Perimeter fencing
  • Dugout roof structures
  • Ballfield lighting (1 field)
  • ADA-compliant walkways and restrooms
  • Bleachers and spectator areas
  • Parking lot improvements

After reviewing assessment and survey results, Jensen Park was selected as the most competitive site for this grant, maximizing community benefit and funding potential.
