About Planeta

Planeta is a Queer Dance Party centered around creating a safe atmosphere for all groups belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly for people of color and trans people. We build our inclusive environment with music that is representative of our diverse communities in Providence and will make you break a sweat. We also provide a space for wonderful drag performers from the community to express themselves and share their talents. Planeta just celebrated its one-year anniversary in March of 2023. This could not have been possible without the loving support of all the wonderful dancers and fashion icons who have come to all the events we hosted. We created some amazing memories with you all through our fun and sexy themes, such as Y2K, Amor Perdido, and Leather and Lace, and for that we are incredibly grateful!

We are raising $30K

We want to continue making of Planeta a space where our community comes together to have fun and grow bigger and stronger. To do this, we are coming up with innovative ideas and opportunities available for performers and for you, our audience! We want to diversify the engagement we offer to our audience with different workshops and programming available for those who are interested in diving into their creative side. We also want to hire more artists and be able to increase the payment amounts we can offer them so we can repay them with the gratitude that they deserve. Moreover, we want to enhance the experience of Planeta by building more props for our themed events and creating a more immersive experience so that every event we host feels more unique and memorable. With this in mind, we are raising $30K to achieve these goals. This money would be going into renting out a studio where we can store equipment and host classes, build props/sculptures, pay performers, and offer a sliding scale for all our activities so that different financial abilities do not become a barrier for our LGBTQIA+ community to enjoy Planeta.

Queer spaces are limited in Providence, especially those created by and for people of color and trans people to feel safe, included, and loved. If we care for and invest in spaces like Planeta, we can increase the likelihood of their permanence. Any support you can give us to achieve our goal of raising $30K is a stone to help us build the community we envision for us all.
