Pisgah Lake Road Repair 2020
Donation protected
The winter of 2019-2020 brought a great deal of snowfall to Pisgah Lake Rd, which means a lot of snowmelt. The road we all use and love has come into major disrepair. The burden in years past has fallen onto a small dedicated few during summer and winter alike and we appreciate all their efforts. This year we are in need of a much larger effort that will require participation from as many as possible. We want to start with the stretch of road from just before Rockhaven Farm up to Pisgah Lake as it is in the worst condition. The $8,000 goal is hopefully a high estimate but we need a lot of road base - of which we are asking the City for a grant. We also need about $1,000 to repair the Road Grader that John Liggett, Chuck Roberts, and Jim Hudak so graciously purchased to maintain the road every Spring and Fall (no the road does not grade itself). Keep in mind there is not much left to grade as you can't grade exposed granite.
We need to rent a two axle dump truck or pay to have the road base delivered. Renting is by far cheaper if we have volunteers with a Class B license. Daily rental of a Tandem Axle dump truck from United Rentals in Denver is $819/day $2,232/week + gas. Each load depending on the dump truck capacity should be about $120-$150 for about 15-19 tons. We will need tons (pun intended) of road base - likely 225 tons to get this section of road in operating condition - maybe more. Understand this is not a permanent fix - this is just the start as the road is in desperate need of base.
We estimate 90 min round trip so about 5 loads per day (limited to Walstrum Quarry hours) Road base costs $7.75/ton from Albert Frei & Sons / Walstrum Quarry at Hwy6 and I70.
Needed: $1000 to fix road grader
Backhoe: I secured one and will donate the operating hours used for the repair
Dump Truck: $2,232 for 1 week + $300 estimated in gas
Road base: $2,000-$4000
We understand not everyone uses the road as often nor the whole stretch of the road (Like John Ewers at the very start of the road) so we are focusing mainly on the portions that everyone uses. We also understand with the world health crisis that funds for community projects are tight. Please donate what you can, and if you are not in a position to donate $$, we will need people's time donation as well - especially experienced back hoe operators (1000hrs+). We can post where the dollars are spent and if agreed anything left will be used for future road work. We are open to ideas to lower the costs - so please email me at [email redacted]. If you want to volunteer to be treasurer I'm all for it! I will donate my backhoe's hours, my personal vacation time, and also put $$ in for road base as my contribution. We want to start the work the 2nd or 3rd week of May.
We are using GoFundMe as a convenient way to collect donations. Note from the site: 'GoFundMe is a for-profit company. It charges a 2.9 percent payment-processing fee on each donation, along with 30 cents for every donation. That means if a campaign raised $1,000 through 10 donations of $100 each, GoFundMe would collect about $32. GoFundMe no longer charges a platform fee, so it is free for people to start a campaign. The company asks donors to leave a tip after making a donation.
So watch when donating as 'Tips' go to the web site not the road fund.
