Help the Pilsen Housing Cooperative secure this building as affordable ownership housing for longtime Pilsen families.
Skyrocketing rents have forced thousands of people to leave our neighborhood. PIHCO was created by Pilsen artists and families as a way for us to stay in the community where we have roots. Our lema is “¡Quédate en Pilsen!"
We own two buildings and have converted 11 longtime Pilsen renters to co-op homeowners. PIHCO members secure their place in the neighborhood and build wealth. They can leave their share to their children. Prices are permanently affordable to help future families.
This building will bring the total number of Co-op units we've created to 18. We have received no public subsidies. Our achievements have been thanks to community-powered cooperation and those supporting us. ¡La union sí hace la fuerza! We hope we can be a model for additional efforts in neighborhoods across the city of Chicago and beyond.
100% of your donation to PIHCO goes toward our housing. Donations make the project possible and help us keep pricing affordable; donations never accrue to individual buyers in PIHCO.
Thank you so much for your support! ¡Mil gracias de antemano!
Fine print about tax deductability: PIHCO is a nonprofit in good standing in the State of Illinois. Like most co-ops, we are not a 501c3 (the IRS has a separate category for co-ops). If you would like to make a larger donation and want to ensure it is tax deductible, we can make this happen. Please contact us via email (listed on our website ).
