"Pratty" was everyone's mate. His enthusiasm was infectious, he was spirited and the life of every party. He loved gathering with his family and friends, sharing a meal, a beverage and stories. Well actually, John told all the stories, and we all listened happily and laughed loudly. Tragically Pratty was taken from us way too soon. He leaves behind the best community in Queensland, one that respected him and will miss him dearly.
John kicked off the Pikedale Community group back in September 2016 with the vision of bringing our community together on a regular basis and to establish a fixed meeting place within the district. Being a passionate community advocate this had been John's goal for a long time. From then on, the community would meet at someone's woolshed, machinery shed or packing shed once a month or so, to make an effort to catch up and support each other, especially in recent times during the harshest drought in history. John’s vision was to access land and a hall to host regular gatherings, special events like local weddings, community activities or celebrations. He made this his mission and a month before his accident, he received the news that this would become a reality. John's passion and determination with the backing of the local shire council, gave the group the chance to acquire land in the heart of the community, upon which they can establish a building.
The week before John’s sudden passing, John and Julie were given the opportunity to select a building for relocation from the town of Warwick. Not only was the building perfect, it was free! The community will now begin fundraising to have it transported and installed on site.
The Pratt family and the Pikedale Community Inc group would deeply appreciate your support with a small contribution to the project, in lieu of flowers, and in honour of our much loved mate, ‘Pratty’.
Much love and thanks
