Pietermaritzburg Feeding Scheme
Donation protected
Hi my name is Bevan, my wife and I decided for our honeymoon we would visit my family in South Africa. On this trip my Aunty, took us the local feeding scheme run in the community where she teaches.
The scheme- “IMFUNDUMALO NENTOKOMALO feeding scheme” is now registered, and run by a former student who lives in the community and doesn’t have much herself.
They rely heavily on donations and sponsors from local businesses and friends who, in this economy, would not be able to afford much themselves and can’t donate on a regular basis, but they give everything they can to help those with less.
The feeding scheme feeds operates 6 days a week from her house where a truck is delivered with bags of food, clothes and anything else they can get their hands on. The donations also help fund things such as awareness programs and motivational talks, and provide food for the local aged care home where my grandparents reside.
With the issue of load shedding there, some of these kids and their families go 2 weeks without water, and won’t eat at all without the feeding scheme. This extreme poverty often leads to issues like alcoholism, drug use, crime, rape, teen pregnancy, and begging on the streets and at traffic lights.
It's challenging to grasp the depth of poverty without direct exposure, but our time in this community opened our eyes.
While global poverty is overwhelming, making a local impact in a community close to our hearts, proves that even small efforts bring significant change.
If you feel like doing something positive today, you can help donate on the go fund me link on my bio which will go to their registered nonprofit scheme. I’m not exaggerating when I say $5 goes a long way there and anything counts.
Thank you ❤️
