Eagle Scout Project Mather School

My name is Nick Owen. I am a boy scout working towards the rank of Eagle Scout. To obtain the rank of Eagle Scout, I need complete an organized service project. For my project I plan to construct six picnic tables for the Mather School in Dorchester MA. The Mather School was established in 1639 and is the first public school in America. The school educates the children of Dorchester. Dorchester is great place but is plagued with gang violence and poverty. Despite the struggles of the surrounding area, the local children are able to find solace inside the walls of the Mather School.
The picnic tables will provide a space outdoors where the community of The Mather School can relax and socialize.
The tables will be placed in several locations around the campus, primarily in the front of the school building The tables will be made of composite lumber. Composite lumber is made of recycled plastics. The Mather School requested that the tables be built from composite lumber because it is durable and very heavy, this will prevent damage and theft. The tables will be built by the scouts of Troop 11 of Dorchester and Troop 132 of Concord. The Mather School is filled with bright students that are taught by the wonderful teachers with very little funding. My goal is to have the tables built by early October. The money raised will be used to purchase the wood and other necessary materials. Please considering donating to this worthy cause.  Thank you!
