As a photojournalist I try to tell stories that evoke emotion, ones that need to be heard. I know I will find thousands of these stories along the way and in sharing them with everyone I possibly can, I hope to inspire others to do what I am doing. Basically, I aim for this trip to be a vehicle for not only my maturation, but the true beginning of my ability to go out and create a change in the world.
I will be volunteering through the organization International Volunteer HQ (http://www.volunteerhq.org/) as I take a gap year between my graduation from Randolph High School and the begging of my undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico.
The plan is as follows:
Third World Development (working in an impoverished community) in Chiang Rai, Tailand from September 15th to November 1st.
Caring for Disabled Children and Orphanage Work in Hanoi, Vietnam from November 3rd to December 15th.
Teaching as part of a free education program in the slums of Delhi, India from January 15th to March 15th.
Childcare work in Dharamasala, India from March 16th to April 14th.
Orphanage work in Kathmandu, Nepal from April 16th to June 18th.
As you can see, it's ambitious, but it's going to change my life in ways I don't yet understand and hopefully I can change the lives of others along the way.
Any and all support is so highly appreciated and I thank you for even considering to do so!
If you would like to follow me along the way as I embark on this adventure I am currently setting up a blog with which to keep track of everything as I go, for now though, you can follow me on Instagram and Twitter @photobyjl or checkout my website:
