Phil's Fight For Fatherhood

If you know me, you know that I like to keep to myself, but this is a fight that I need help in.  I have already been blessed & humbled by the generosity in which I’ve already received from my supporters.  I have been overwhelmed with love, prayers, words of affirmation, and your written testimonies.  I’ve been an active dad, father, role model, coach and mentor in Spokane for over 20 years!  My oldest son is 24, my daughter is 20, and my twins just turned 19!  I’m currently fighting for my 11, 8, and almost 5-year-old!

I found out a few days ago that our children are being kept from me because I don’t have a job.  I’m currently fighting for more time, but the only way to get more time is through the courts or to agree on a fair parenting schedule.  Unfortunately, it does not appear that there are going to be any agreements, so court is my only way, and our trial is scheduled for March.  The most important thing for our/all children is their mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing.  They need to develop in a safe, caring, supportive, and focused environment especially during a divorce.  As I watch our children struggle, my fight for them becomes greater and greater!  I will never give up my fight, and this is why I need your help!

I quit my job of 20 years in January (2020) to be a stay-at-home dad.  We were planning on living off my wife’s income, savings, tax return, our retirement, and I had a few coaching jobs lined up with the local school.  COVID hit in March, then on June 2nd she asked me for a divorce and to leave.  I told her I wasn’t leaving, because I wasn’t going to abandon our family, and our children were not going to see me pack my bags.  I waited and waited for divorce papers, until I ultimately decided to file for legal separation on July 17th.  Our first court date was in August, and the courts ordered me to leave in September.  Luckily, I was able to find a fully furnished place to live, but I’ve struggled finding a job, and the current place I’m living in has been put up for sale.  The odds are stacked against me because I have nothing.  The love I have for my children and the love they have for me is enough to keep fighting regardless of my odds, and that’s all I need.

I’m not willing to give up, but after 6 months and $10,000 in fees I’m running out of money for legal counsel.  This ongoing legal battle will prevent me from helping with my oldest daughter’s wedding in March, and prevent me from helping my twins pay for college once they graduate from high school in June.  I’m actively looking for a job, I’m doing as many side jobs as I can, but I still find myself at the local food bank(s), and allowing myself to accept any and all help.  I know it’s a tough time of the year to give, but even small contributions will make a big difference when supported by the masses.

I’m asking that you assist by giving, but you can also support me by sharing this campaign on social media in order to further spread the news to others who may be in a position to help.  If you’ve been affected by a similar circumstance please send me a private message on Facebook.  I plan on forming a group to join together for support among us.  I know that I’m not the first to go through this, so we’re not alone in this battle.  #dadsmattertoo
