Support Our South Philly Communities

Philly Thrive & Young Chances Foundation are hosting a joint fundraiser! Both organizations are led by South Philadelphians working to build community and a better future for our families. Young Chances Foundation works to make our neighborhoods safer by giving children and teens a space to come together to build leadership, learn job skills, and strengthen their relationships to reduce neighborhood violence. Philly Thrive works to make our neighborhoods safer by organizing so fossil fuel companies can no longer pollute our air and poison our communities. Philly Thrive organizes for a future where our families no longer suffer from enormously high rates of asthma, heart disease, lung disease, and cancer.

Read more about YCF and Thrive:

Since 2012, YCF has been providing young children in South Philly with the opportunity to have fun, strengthen family relationships, and build positive leadership skills. YCF’s Community Engagement Center at 27th and Tasker, opened in 2019, provides a home for educational and recreational programs, community events and workshops, and skills and information sessions. Young Chances gives away coats, home-cooked meals, and more to the Grays Ferry community. YCF’s mission is to produce safety, reduce teen violence, and to alleviate some of the neighborhood tensions.

Philly Thrive has been organizing to win the Right to Breathe since 2015, bringing together Philadelphians to demand a transition of the PES oil refinery. We won an end to more than 150 years of pollution with the sale of the site to a company who doesn’t plan to re-open it as a refinery, but we’re not done yet. We’re going to keep organizing to make sure the public is actively involved in decisions about cleanup and redevelopment & that there’s a quota for quality union jobs to surrounding neighborhoods. And we’re going to keep building -- because the Right to Breathe has always meant much more than eliminating the largest polluter in the city. We’ll come together to decide our next campaigns, like keeping the $60 million proposed LNG plant from coming to South Philly, accountability and reparations for PES’s benzene releases, and a municipal Green New Deal.

Money raised through this GoFundMe campaign will be split 50-50 between Philly Thrive and Young Chances Foundation
