Hi, my name is Darcy, I am 18 years old. I have just finished school and am currently having a gap year before I go to university. I'm part of Gateway Church in Glasgow, who are running a missions trip to Tondo, Manila in March 2026 to support Kalayaan Community Ministries (KCM), headed up by Ron and Joanna Domingo.

I became familiar with KCM in March 2024 when my mum was part of a missions team, sent out by Gateway Church. The stories of the work that KCM do really inspired me and I knew if the church ever went back I wanted to be a part of the the team.

KCM are a Christian Mission based in the recycling community of Tondo dumpsite and the surrounding areas. They have worked there since 2007. Tondo is the largest slum area within Manila and it faces some of the most extraordinary economic and social challenges.

Their mission is to bring the faith, hope and love of Jesus, with practical support to those affected by the injustice of poverty in the Philippines. Kalayaan means freedom in Tagalog, the official Filipino language. KCM work to see that families and communities find freedom from the strongholds of financial poverty. Their aim is transformation.

After my mum returned from her 2024 trip, she described Ron and Joanna Domingo and their team as a true light of Jesus, shining in a very dark place, they were literally being the hands and feet of Jesus.

KCM run various ministries in the community, including feeding programmes, education scholarships, Summer Camps , infants, children and youth work, medical support and Micro Enterprise, all built on the foundation of Church and House of Prayer.
