Help a Philly Refugee Family of 6

Zita & I have been helping a family of 6 settle in Philly after years of hardship as refugees in Burundi.  The family, who came into the US legally, includes a single mom, her four children and an adorable 4 month old baby!  They all speak limited English but are studying very hard and improving every day!  We meet with them weekly to practice English, manage finances & try to have some fun.  Unfortunately, the mother is currently unable to find work due to her limited English & a medical condition that limits her ability to stand for long periods.  As Sept is nearing, all of the kids will to go school, so even the eldest cannot work without missing school.  They will officially run out of money to pay their rent this month.  We are hoping to raise enough money to cover rent & bills for 2 months  ($850 per month) while we help her find work to be self-sustainable.  (read more)

We are not typically comfortable asking others for money--but we see the desperation in the mother's eyes as she tries to find work to support her beautiful family.  We are asking our community of friends and family to help us help a family we feel is truly deserving of support.
