Help Support Phil Through Life-Saving Treatment
Not many people know that Phil was diagnosed at just 3 years old with two incredibly rare conditions — Ollier disease and Maffucci syndrome.
Both are exceptionally rare. Ollier disease affects only a tiny fraction of the population, while Maffucci syndrome is so rare that only a few hundred cases have ever been recorded worldwide.
Ollier disease causes multiple benign (non-cancerous) cartilage tumours to grow inside the bones, while Maffucci syndrome also involves abnormal blood vessel growths. Together, these conditions have shaped Phil’s entire life.
Throughout his life, Phil has undergone multiple surgeries to remove these growths — not only to manage chronic pain, but also to reduce the risk of them becoming cancerous.
Up until 2023, Phil had been incredibly fortunate. Each surgery had brought relief, and all growths removed had been benign but everything changed with his most recent operation.
During surgery on his shoulder blade, doctors confirmed that the tumour was cancerous, although the operation itself was successful, further scans have since revealed an even more serious challenge.
Phil has now been diagnosed with a skull-based chondrosarcoma, located dangerously close to his spinal cord.
He is already experiencing the impact of this tumour, including reduced vision along with severe debilitating headaches.
The fight ahead⬇️
Specialists believe the tumour can be removed, but the surgery is extremely complex and carries significant risks.
The brutal reality is that this operation is essential.
Phil will need to undergo specialist surgery in Salford, Manchester, followed by 6 weeks in London for proton beam therapy — an advanced, highly targeted form of radiotherapy designed to treat cancers close to critical areas like the brain, while minimising damage to surrounding tissue.
Why we need your help⬇️
We are incredibly grateful for the care and support provided by the NHS. However, there are limitations, and unfortunately travel and accommodation costs are not covered.
Phil is self-employed, meaning he doesn’t have access to sick pay or the financial safety nets many rely on during times like this.
As a family, we are doing everything we can to support Phil and his family get through this together so they can concentrate solely on his recovery.
How you can help support Phil⬇️
We are organising a charity golf day to help raise funds for:
•Accommodation during treatment in Manchester and London.
•Travel costs.
We understand that not everyone will be able to attend this event and golf isn’t for everyone, however it is something that Phil has really found a love for during the the past couple of years.
If you would like to support Phil in any way, a donation — no matter how small — would mean the world to him and to all of us.
Thank You
Phil has faced more than most people could imagine and now he needs our help more than ever.
Thank you for taking the time to read his story and for any support you can give ❤️
