PHAT Queer Security & Guardians Funding Page

Donation protected
We are starting a Queer Security Company.

This action from the queer/femme community is a response to the countless events we’ve been deprived of feeling safe by those employed to protect us. We want a security team that represents the people and gains respect through welfare and diplomacy and care. In starting this new security company, our aim is to reclaim the club doors, dancefloors and spaces.

We are looking to fund our GUARDIANS scheme.

GUARDIANS are welfare officers here for you from the very start when you intend to go out, through the night, till you get home safe. We have been working as Guardians voluntarily up till this point. We have dealt with a high number of situations and we would like to make this more sustainable for us and you.

GUARDIANS are here for you when:

  • you need a friend! (before, after and during the event)
  • you're feeling unwell, physically or mentally
  • you need help getting home
  • you're worried about yourself or others
  • things get just a bit too much

For GUARDIANS, your safety is the number one priority at all times. Safety doesn’t just mean protection from others, but care for yourself and each other. We will be providing tissues, sanitary products, intimate protection and sensory tools. We will help you without judgment or threat.

Why are we doing this?

  • We want to address the underrepresentation in security roles, especially in nightlife. We believe we can make spaces safer if people can relate and trust those looking out for them.

  • If you want something done right, do it yourself. We are no stranger to getting overlooked, ignored and abused at times we’ve been most vulnerable. We have already reached a point where we have to rely on one another to stay safe. We want to carry on doing this in a more sustainable, informed and safe way for both the guardians and the public. We want to create a space for dialogue.

What is the goal of this GoFundMe page?

Our goal is to raise enough funds so that our GUARDIANS can recieve full training and are fully qualified to work at any event we are booked for.

Here's a breakdown of the cost of all of this:

For GUARDIANS:

First Aid training (£80pp)

Learning how to use drug testing kits with Bristol Drug Project (BDP)

Diversity Training - £2000 to cover the training of 20 people

BSL Training - £1000 to cover the cost of BSL training for 20 people (£50pp).

For GUARDIANS wishing to receive security training:

SIA Training and Badge - £2700 to cover the cost of SIA training and Badge for 5 people (£540pp).

And last but certainly not least, we are aiming to raise £1500 for an electric mobility chair for our team.

A longstanding member of our GUARDIAN team, Liv, is a committed, passionate and hardworking individual who is currently restricted with the work they can take on living with Fibromyalgia. Having access to an electric mobility chair, Liv can join the rest of the team and work events further away from home.

If you believe in that a safer nightlife for queer / femme people is possible, please donate whatever you can, share this page with your friends and family and encourage them to do the same. Thank you.
