Do you want to join me in making a difference?
My name is Julia Gervais. I am a member of the Croydon Seventh-Day Adventist Church and leader of the Teens’ Ministry Team. We are committed to nurturing the spiritual development of teenagers and guiding them to making positive choices. We want to encourage them to become leaders in our local community and society at large.
My assistant, Marcia Lewis and I, will be taking a group of up to 9 teenagers and 1 adult from our church community on a mission trip to the Ivory Coast this summer. The primary purpose of this trip is to help renovate a number of classrooms, a library and a nursery at the College Adventiste Divo, an all-through school in the Ivory Coast. We will also be providing much-needed computers to enhance the educational opportunities for the local students. In addition, we want our teens to learn from their peers in the Ivory Coast and vice versa. This mutual exchange will provide a rich and diverse learning experience for both groups of young people.
We need to raise a total of £10,000 to help cover the cost of travel and accommodation.
Our aim is to support and provide better opportunities for the students and families in the Ivory Coast while helping to enhance the values of our young people. Building resilience and differentiating between a need and a want are critical to thriving in this post-modern world. We are certain this experience will go a long way to changing lives and broadening perspectives.
